Softball To Open Season Sunday in Florida

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team opens its season on Sunday when it takes part in the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida as part of its spring break trip.

The Eagles will be making its second straight trip to the Spring Games.  CSE will open its season on Sunday against Mount Ida College at 11:30 am and Saint Vincent College at 2 pm.  The following day, the Eagles play under the lights as it takes on New England College at 4:30 and 7 pm.  Following a day off, the Eagles return to action on Wednesday against Wheelock College at 9 am and Emmanuel College at 11:30 am.  The Eagles will close out its trip on Thursday against University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg at 4:30 pm and Morrisville State College at 7 pm.

Third year head coach Steve Eisenstein is looking forward to the trip down south.  "This new chapter kicks off for us in the coming days as we head to Florida for the first games of the season.  It will be a good feeling to get on the field with this group.  It's all good feelings for this season."

CSE is looking to rebound from a 7-29 campaign last season.  The Eagles return four starters in Marie Goodman, Elizabeth Unger, Rachael Romer and Marielis Alicea.   Unger lead the team last season in hits, home runs, RBI's, total bases and second in batting average and doubles.

CSE will look for contributions from 11 newcomers, many of whom will look to make an immediate impact.  Despite all the new faces, Eisenstein is confident in the young team.  " With the addition of 11 newcomers to the roster this year, I am eager to see the positive strides the program makes.  This year's team is an exciting and explosive group.  I look forward to watching our hard work pay off and challenging the top teams in the conference."

Following the Florida swing, the Eagles open up non-conference play against john Jay on March 25.  Conference play begins on April 4 against Penn State Abington.
