ARLINGTON, Va. – The St. Elizabeth University softball team opened Atlantic East Conference play on the road Saturday, taking on Marymount (Va.) in a doubleheader.
The Eagles were limited offensively in the opener, but Savannah Vanwinkle led the way with two hits. Kara Reyes and Rylee Sullivan also recorded hits as Saint Elizabeth continued to battle against a tough Marymount staff.
In the second game, Vanwinkle stayed hot at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with an RBI double. Josilynn Garcia and Kara Reyes also added hits, while Romie Kalupy scored the Eagles' lone run.
Despite the results, Saint Elizabeth showed flashes offensively and gained valuable early conference experience as Atlantic East play gets underway.
