Scranton, PA- St. Elizabeth dropped both games of a road conference doubleheader against Marywood on Thursday afternoon in Scranton, falling 9-5 in Game 1 and 9-1 in five innings in Game 2.
Game 1: Marywood 9, St. Elizabeth 5
St. Elizabeth came out strong in the opener, jumping ahead with a three-run second inning. Rylee Sullivan delivered an RBI single to get the Eagles on the board, and Isabell Edwards followed with a two-run single to give St. Elizabeth an early 3-0 lead.
Marywood answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues to score five runs and take control. The Pacers added one in the third, two more in the fourth, and another in the sixth to build their cushion.
The Eagles continued to battle offensively. Leidy Soto Leyba drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third, and Sullivan added her second RBI of the game with a single in the fifth. Sullivan finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Edwards went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Savannah Vanwinkle also had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
In the circle, Kami DeGaetani took the loss, allowing six runs (just one earned) over 2.1 innings before Jocelyn Koo worked the final 3.2 innings in relief.
Game 2: Marywood 9, St. Elizabeth 1 (5 innings)
In the nightcap, Marywood used a five-run second inning and never looked back, earning a 9-1 run-rule win in five innings.
After a scoreless first, the Pacers broke through with five runs in the second, then added three more in the third and one in the fifth.
St. Elizabeth's lone run came in the third inning when Romie Kalupy scored on a throwing error after a bunt single by Jadyn Barker. Barker led the Eagles offensively with two hits, while Julia Stewart, Leidy Soto Leyba, and Kalupy also recorded hits.
Jazmin Frias got the start and took the loss, allowing five runs in 1.2 innings. Kara Reyes pitched the final three innings in relief.
