Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's soccer team is preparing for their historic home season opener on September 1 against the County College of Morris.
The first ever men's soccer game will take place on Thursday, September 1 at 4 pm. Head Coach
Tiago DosSantos feels the energy and excitement for the season opener. "I'm extremely excited for opening day and you can feel it within the team/campus. The student-athletes can't wait to get on the field and represent CSE in the first ever game."
CSE jumps into conference play on September 10 when they host Bryn Athyn College at 2 pm. The Lions are coming off an 8-9-1 record last season. The following day, the Eagles hit the road for their first ever conference road game against Penn State Abington.
On October 1, the Eagles host reigning NEAC champions Morrisville State at 3 pm. The Mustangs finished last season with a 14-5-2 record and won their first round NCAA game, 3-1 against Cabrini.
CSE hosts Penn State Berks on October 22 as part of Fall Fest. The Eagles round out the regular season on October 29 when they travel to Williamsport, Pa. to take on Penn College.
The Eagles will have the youngest team in the NEAC and one of, if not the youngest team in the entire country. Of the 12 players on the current roster, 11 of them are freshmen.
DosSantos knows there will be growing pains with 12 freshmen this year, but has seen great improvement thus far. "I think the guys are coming along great. Obviously, we have mostly all Freshmen and no one knew what to expect coming into preseason. We have done things like; conditioning, technical ball work, & tactics to prepare them for opening day. They have progressed each day and the biggest improvement they have made so far is the speed of play, which at this level is much different from high school soccer."
Despite having an inexperienced team, DosSantos expects his team to turn heads. "It's going to be a fun year and I told my guys we have to take it one game at a time. We are going to be competitive and even shock some teams with how well we are playing for a first year program. Looking at the season schedule, its not at all unlikely that we can win some games on top of being competitive."
