ALLENTOWN, P.A. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (19-7, 7-1 NEAC) played to a split at Cedar Crest, winning game one, 5-4 before falling in game two, 10-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
In the top of the second in game one,
Kathryn Harrigan and
Rachael Romer had run scoring hits to give the Eagles an early 3-0 lead. Â An inning later, Harrigan ripped a RBI double to left, upping the lead to four and giving her three runs batted in over the first three innings.
Cedar Crest cut the lead in half in the fourth, scoring two runs. Â In the top of the fifth, Romer drew a bases loaded walk to give the Eagles a 5-2 advantage. Â In the bottom of the seventh, the Falcons scored two runs to get within 5-4, however
Alyssa Hampton induced a line out to end the game, giving the Eagles the one run victory.
Hampton improved her record to 5-3 on the season, striking out three over seven innings. Â
Karyn Shimazu finished 3-4 with two runs scored.
CSE started strong in game two as
Jontae Patton,
Sierra Dunn and Harrigan had run scoring hits to open up a 3-0 lead after 1.5 innings. Â In the bottom of the second, the Flacons struck for three runs of their own to tie the game at three.
The game remained tied until the top of the fifth when
Neckolette Nedwell launched a three-run triple to right, giving the Eagles a 6-3 lead. Â CSE could not hold the lead however as the Falcons scored three in the fifth and seven in the sixth to take the game, 13-6.
Harrigan and Patton finished with two hits a piece in game two while Nedwell had three RBI's.
CSE returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Wells College for an 11 am start.
