CLERMONT, F.L. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (3-3, 0-0 NEAC) fell in game one to New England College, 4-0 before downing the Pilgrims in game two, 7-4 to earn a split on Tuesday afternoon.
After the Eagles were sent down in order in the top of the first, the Pilgrims scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to gain a 3-0 lead. New England added a run in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.Â
Offensively, the Eagles had one more hit through five innings, but were held scoreless. The Eagles were unable to score over the final two innings, dropping game one, 4-0.
After New England scored four runs in the top of the first in game two, the Eagles loaded the bottom in the bottom of the inning, with Neckolette Nedwell drawing a walk, combined with a throwing error to give CSE its first two runs of the game.
Later in the inning, Kathryn Harrigan used an infield single to drive in a run and get the Eagles within one.
Following two scoreless innings, the Eagles struck in the bottom of the fourth as Jennifer Tinger lined a two-run single to center to give the Eagles its first lead of the day at 5-4. Two batters later, Nedwell lined a single up the middle, scoring two more as the Eagles lead grew to 7-4.
On the mound, Vega shut the door in the last three innings, allowing just one hit. CSE closed the game out in the seventh as Vega induced a flyball to center for the final out of the game, giving the Eagles the 7-4 win.
Vega pitched her second complete game of the season, picking up her second win. Vega allowed just one hit after the first inning.
Teya Carr finished 3-4 with a run scored. Nedwell added a hit and three rbi's while Tinger reached base three times with two rbi's.
Following a day off on Wednesday, the Eagles return to action on Thursday when it plays Regis College and Penn State Hazleton beginning at 11:30 am.
