LANCASTER, P.A. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball (11-5, 1-1 NEAC) split in its conference opener at Lancaster Bible College, falling 2-1 in game one before defeating the Chargers 5-0 in game two.
In the top of the second in game one,
Marielis Alicea, lined a RBI single to center, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Â In the bottom of the fourth, the Chargers plated two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Â CSE was unable to get their offense going in the final three innings, dopping the game, 2-1.
Alyssa Hampton ended up on the wrong side of the pitchers duel, surrendering just five hits and two runs while striking out three over six innings. Â
Jontae Patton got the Eagles going early in game two, having RBI singles in the first and third innings to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Â Later in the third,
Brittany Demarest singled home
Teya Carr to up the lead to three.
In the fourth inning,
Laura Costello singled in Kathyn Harrigan to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Â
Jennifer Tinger added a RBI double to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead, which it held for the remainder of the game.
On the mound, Costello spun a gem, tossing her first complete game shutout. Â Costello gave up just three hits while striking out a career high six Chargers.
CSE returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Gallaudet University for a 12 pm start.
