MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (9-3, 0-0 NEAC) continued its record start to the season, downing John Jay College, 17-2 and 11-5 in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles scored in all five innings in game one, including 10 runs in the fourth inning. Â In the inning,
Laura Costello blasted her first career home run, a three-run shot to right field.
Jennifer Tinger,
Karyn Shimazu and
Ashley VonHorn each had two hits in the game. Â
Alyssa Vega picked up her third win of the season on the mound, striking out three in five innings.
CSE found itself trailing late in game two, however the Eagles scored two runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead and five in the seventh inning to blow the game open and win game two, 11-5.
Neckolette Nedwell and
Marielis Alicea each had three hits in the game.  Vega picked up another in in game two, improving her record to 4-0 after pitching three scoreless innings in relief.Â
The 9-3 record is the best start in program history. Â CSE has also won seven straight games.
The Eagles look to continue the run when it hosts Keystone College on Saturday at 12 pm.
