Eagles Travel to John Jay for Season Opener on Friday

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball campaign back to the NEAC Postseason Tournament begins on Friday when it travels to John Jay College for the season opener.

The Eagles are coming off a season where it reached the NEAC semi-finals for the first time in program history.  CSE finished the regular season with a 15-10 record and 13-7 in the conference.  On February 21, CSE notched its first playoff win when it defeated Bryn Athyn College, 95-89 in overtime.  The Eagles season came to an end in the NEAC Final Four when it lost to eventual champions SUNY Poly, 78-50.

John Jay is coming off a 4-21 regular season last year.  The Bloodhounds dropped its season opener on Wednesday to Purchase College, 83-46.

The Eagles return four players from last season, including Third-Team All Conference player, Deja Ingram.  Ingram averaged 10.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last season.  CSE will also return key contributors Rakiyah Sellers, Damaris King, and Dianne Nieves, who will look to have expanded roles with the loss of six seniors from last season.

The Eagles will also look for an immediate impact from its six new players.  Kamille Jacobs, Kamani Williams, Nikiah Lane, Michelle Perez, Kayla Abdul, and Taylor Veve will look to fill the void of the six seniors.

In her first season at the helm for the Eagles, Head Coach Marquetta Dickens is excited for the upcoming season.  "I think we have an interesting mix.  Our players are young, but hungry for more success, especially our returners, which in turn, fuels our freshman.  We expect some fun and exciting balanced basketball.  This season we are really looking to lay a foundation and as the girls say, we are starting our legacy here at CSE."

The Eagles and Bloodhounds tip off on Friday at 6 pm.
