St. Elizabeth University Softball Competes in Myrtle Beach Doubleheader

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The St. Elizabeth University softball team competed in a pair of games on March 5 during its spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, facing Columbia (S.C.) and Waynesburg.


Columbia (S.C.) 5, St. Elizabeth 1

St. Elizabeth dropped its opening game of the day to Columbia (S.C.), 5–1.

Columbia struck first in the opening inning and added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to build its lead. The Eagles were held to two hits through the first six innings before pushing across a run in the seventh.

With the bases loaded in the final inning, Grace Bobbie drew a walk to bring home Katerra Lutes for St. Elizabeth's lone run of the contest.

Mia Testa recorded one of the Eagles' two hits, while Jocelyn Koo started in the circle and struck out six batters over 4.2 innings. Kara Reyes pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief.


Waynesburg 11, St. Elizabeth 8

In the second game of the day, the Eagles battled Waynesburg in a back-and-forth contest before falling 11–8.

St. Elizabeth jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding one in the second. The Eagles broke the game open in the third inning when Isabell Edwards delivered an RBI double and Rylee Sullivan followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 6–2.

The Eagles added another run in the fourth when Gabby Panebianco singled to bring home Jadyn Barker, giving St. Elizabeth a 7–2 advantage.

Waynesburg responded with a four-run fifth inning and added three more in the sixth to take the lead. St. Elizabeth added its final run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Panebianco, but Waynesburg scored twice in the seventh to seal the win.

St. Elizabeth finished the game with 11 hits, led by Jadyn Barker, who scored three runs. Panebianco and Sullivan each drove in two runs for the Eagles.
