MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The St. Elizabeth University softball team earned a pair of victories over Bay Path on Friday, defeating the Wildcats 9–1 in the opener before claiming a 3–2 win in game two to complete the sweep.
Game 1: St. Elizabeth 9, Bay Path 1
St. Elizabeth's offense erupted early as the Eagles scored five runs in the second inning on their way to a 9–1 victory.
Isabell Edwards led the Eagles at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring three runs and driving in two. Savannah Vanwinkle added two hits, including a triple, while Mia Testa recorded two hits and two RBIs. Rylee Sullivan also contributed two hits and an RBI in the win.
The Eagles used aggressive baserunning to create opportunities, as Edwards stole two bases while Sullivan, Romie Kalupy, and Katerra Lutes also recorded steals.
In the circle, Kami DeGaetani earned the win after pitching all five innings, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out two.
Game 2: St. Elizabeth 3, Bay Path 2
St. Elizabeth rallied from an early deficit to secure a 3–2 win in the second game of the day.
Bay Path scored two runs in the first inning before the Eagles responded in the fourth. Romie Kalupy delivered the big hit of the game with a two-run double down the right-field line that tied the score.
Kalupy came through again in the sixth inning with an RBI single that brought home the go-ahead run, finishing the game with three hits and all three RBIs for St. Elizabeth.
Leidy Soto Leyba had a strong performance at the plate with three hits, while Kara Reyes and Mia Testa each added doubles.
Gabby Cummings pitched a complete game for the Eagles, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three to earn the win.
St. Elizabeth improved to 4–6 overall with the doubleheader sweep.
