Eagles Sweep Hunter in Dominant Doubleheader Performance

MORRISTOWN, N.J. — The St. Elizabeth University softball team put together a strong all-around performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Hunter College in a home doubleheader. The Eagles opened the day with a 3-0 shutout in game one before erupting for a 12-0 run-rule victory in five innings in game two to finish the day at 6-6 overall.

Game One: St. Elizabeth 3, Hunter 0

St. Elizabeth set the tone in the opener behind a dominant performance in the circle from Kami DeGaetani and a steady offensive attack that produced 11 hits.

DeGaetani was in complete control from the start, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits over seven innings. She struck out two and kept Hunter off the scoreboard all afternoon.

The Eagles broke through in the bottom of the first inning when Isabella Hanos led off with a double and later came around to score on an RBI single from Kara Reyes for an early 1-0 lead.

St. Elizabeth added to its advantage in the fourth inning with aggressive baserunning, as Rylee Sullivan stole home to make it 2-0. The Eagles tacked on one more insurance run in the sixth when Olivia Douglas tripled and Isabell Edwards followed with an RBI double to center field.

At the plate, Hanos went 2-for-4 with a run scored, Edwards reached base four times with a hit, three walks, and an RBI, while Gabby Panebianco collected two hits. Sullivan also doubled and scored in the victory.

Game Two: St. Elizabeth 12, Hunter 0 (5 innings)

The Eagles carried their momentum into game two and exploded offensively, scoring in each of the first three innings on the way to a 12-0 win in five innings.

St. Elizabeth wasted no time taking control, plating five runs in the first inning. Gabby Panebianco and Savannah Vanwinkle each drew RBI walks, Kara Reyes scored on a wild pitch, and Deanna McIntosh delivered a two-run double to left center to cap the inning.

The Eagles added two more runs in the second, highlighted by an RBI groundout from Reyes and an RBI single from Panebianco, before putting the game out of reach with a five-run third inning.

In the third, McIntosh singled to start the rally, and after an error and another wild pitch moved runners into scoring position, Isabell Edwards lined a two-run double down the left field line. Douglas followed with an RBI single, Samantha Hemhauser brought home another run on a groundout, and Grace Bobbie added an RBI single to make it 12-0.

Jazmin Frias was outstanding in the circle, throwing a five-inning complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits, struck out five, and did not issue a walk.

Edwards led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring three times and driving in two runs. Douglas scored twice and added an RBI, Mia Testa went 2-for-3, and McIntosh finished 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Panebianco also drove in two runs as part of a balanced offensive effort.
