Eagles Split Doubleheader with Elmira Behind Murphy’s Five-RBI Performance

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The St. Elizabeth University baseball team split a doubleheader with Elmira on Tuesday, earning a comeback victory in the opener before falling in the second game at the Ripken Experience complex.

In Game 1, the Eagles rallied late to secure a 7–5 win over Elmira.

Elmira jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the second inning and adding two more in the third to take a 5–1 lead. St. Elizabeth began chipping away in the fifth inning when Trevor Policastro drove in a run with a single and Owen Murphy delivered a two-run double down the left-field line to cut the deficit to 5–4.

The Eagles completed the comeback in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Cameron Vicari drew a walk to tie the game before Murphy came through again, lining a single to center field that plated two runs and gave St. Elizabeth a 7–5 advantage.

Murphy led the offense with three hits and five RBIs, including a solo home run earlier in the game. Policastro added two hits and an RBI, while Chris Valencia scored twice.

On the mound, David Lopez-Rodriguez earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief before Policastro closed the game in the seventh to record the save.

In Game 2, Elmira used a big first inning to take control and went on to defeat St. Elizabeth 13–6.

Elmira scored five runs in the opening frame and added three more in the second to build an early 8–1 lead. The Eagles fought back with a four-run stretch across the third and fourth innings. Trevor Policastro recorded two doubles and drove in two runs, while Curtis Battle, Harrison Curran, Owen Murphy, and Mark Nesler Jr. each contributed an RBI during the rally.

St. Elizabeth pulled within 9–6 after four innings, but Elmira pulled away late with runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Policastro finished the game with two doubles and two RBIs, while Curran and Gabe Castro each scored twice for the Eagles.
