Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The St. Elizabeth University baseball team dropped a 10-2 decision to Houghton University on Monday morning at Ebbets Field in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Eagles collected eight hits on the day, highlighted by a two-run fourth inning that briefly cut into an early deficit. Sophomore outfielder Sam Porch Jr. drove in the first run of the game for St. Elizabeth with an RBI single to left, scoring Owen Murphy. Moments later, Chris Valencia followed with an RBI single to right field to plate Porch and make the score 3-2.
Murphy finished 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base, while Curtis Battle recorded a pair of hits at the top of the lineup. Mark Nesler also added a double as part of the Eagles' eight-hit effort.
Houghton responded with a run in the fifth before breaking the game open with a four-run seventh inning. Nate Hall led the Highlanders offensively, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI.
On the mound, Nic DiSciascio took the loss after 4.1 innings of work, allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out three. Aidan Folsom and Robert Watson combined to finish the final 3.2 innings in relief.
St. Elizabeth will look to bounce back in its next contest as the Eagles continue their spring trip in Myrtle Beach.
