Morristown, N.J. (January 24, 2026) — The Saint Elizabeth University men's basketball team competed with energy and effort Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell to Gwynedd Mercy University, 87–67, at Saint Joseph Gym.
Gwynedd Mercy opened the game with an efficient offensive performance, shooting 56.7 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 45–31 lead at the break. SEU responded with improved offensive rhythm in the second half, scoring 36 points, but the Griffins maintained their momentum and pulled away down the stretch.
Tye-Rell Monroe led the Eagles with 13 points, providing consistent scoring from the guard position. Joseph Mazzola followed with 11 points, while Cam'Ron Martel added 10 points and five rebounds to round out a balanced SEU effort. The Eagles' bench contributed 36 points, demonstrating strong depth and energy throughout the contest.
SEU found success in transition, outscoring GMU 17–12 in fast-break points, and continued to generate second-chance opportunities. However, Gwynedd Mercy's shooting efficiency and control of the paint proved decisive, as they finished with a significant edge in field-goal percentage and interior scoring.
