Eagles Go 1-1 At Rutgers-Newark Tri-Match

Newark, NJ- The Saint Elizabeth University Eagles traveled to Newark, NJ, to compete in the Rutgers-Newark Tri-Match, as they took on both Rutgers-Newark and fellow United East rival Rosemont. The Eagles were able to go 1-1 on the night as they were able to beat Rosemont 3-0, however fell to Rutgers-Newark in four sets, losing 3-1.

With the two victories Rutgers-Newark jumps to 5-7 on the season, with the 1-1 record Saint Elizabeth remains at .500, with now a 5-5 record, and following the 0-2 day for Rosemont, they now fall to 0-9 on the season.

Saint Elizabeth 3, Rosemont 0

The Eagles were able to defeat the Ravens 3-0, not allowing the Rosemont to score over 20 points in the game, taking all three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-12, & 25-17.

Marissa Heimbaugh & Sienna Volpe each picked up a double-double, with Heimbaugh scoring 15 points for the Eagles, grabbing 10 kills and 5 service aces on the night. For Volpe, she also had 10 kills on the evening, to go with two service aces and a block assist. Dadlyna Louis was able to contribute six points in the Eagles win Saturday, as she was able to tally four kills, a service ace, and picked up two block assists in the match. Ericka Menaling Trajano was able to pick up five service aces for the Eagles, while also tallying 13 assists in the match. Kristina Ashton was able to pick up 18 assists in the Eagles victory, while also tallying two service aces in the match. The Eagles were also able to get point contributions from Onye Bosco, Stephanie Jaramillo, Alyssa Wells, Sophie Galchus, Gianna Rizzolo, and Milliana Senescat.

Rutgers-Newark 3, Saint Elizabeth 1

Rutgers-Newark was able to take the second game from the Eagles winning by a final of 3-1. The two teams were nodded at 1-1 with Rutgers-Newark winning set one by a final of 25-12, and then Saint Elizabeth fighting and being able to take set two by a final of 25-18, Rutgers-Newark would go on to win the next two sets, winning a competitive set three 25-21, and then taking set four by a final of 25-15.

Sienna Volpe would continue her dominate performance for the Eagles, picking up her second double-double on the night tallying 13 points off of 11 kills, and getting two service aces on the night. Marissa Heimbaugh, was also able to continue her fine afternoon, picking up eight points for the Eagles, getting seven kills, and one service ace on the night. Onye Bosco was able to finish strong for the Eagles, picking up seven points off of seven kills in the match. Dadlyna Louis was able to get six points for the Eagles, tallying four kills and being a force at the net defensively, picking up two block assists, and a solo block. Kristina Ashton, would continue her day of 15+ saves, picking up another 18 assists giving her 36 on the afternoon. Ericka Menaling Trajano also was able to pick up nine assists in the match putting her total on the afternoon at 22 assists for the day, Menaling Trajano was also able to pick up two points with a kill and a service ace. The Eagles were also able to get point contributions from Stephanie Jaramillo & Sophie Galchus.

Up Next for Saint Elizabeth

The Eagles will return to action on Monday, September 23rd, as they will head to Purchase, NY, to face Purchase College, with game time scheduled for 7PM.
