Eagles Fight Hard Against Chargers

The Saint Elizabeth University Baseball team played a double-header Tuesday against Lancaster Bible College at Crosley Field. The Eagles fought hard but came up short in both contests in scores of 11-9 and 8-0.

First Game:
The first contest saw the Eagles get on the board first and jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. However, the Chargers would immediately respond scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first. Lancaster Bible would continue their offensive attack scoring 3 runs in each of the first 3 innings to make the lead 9-3 going into the fourth inning. Saint Elizabeth would make a strong comeback effort but ran out of innings as the Chargers secured the victory.

SS Ryan Deal was an offensive catalyst for the Eagles going 3-for-4 with 7 RBIs, 1 walk, and 1 run. LF Anthony Rossomando went 2-for-3 scoring 3 runs, drew 2 walks, and stole a base. 1B Taj Muhhamad was patient at the plate leading the Eagles with 3 drawn walks while also stealing a base. DH Will Wentz went 2-for-4 recording 2 RBIs, 2 walks, and scoring 1 run. RHP Kennedy Ferguson was a bright spot on the mound for the Eagles putting in 3 and a third innings of work, striking out 4, and giving up 4 runs (2 earned).

Second Game:
The second game of the day saw the Eagles struggle to generate offense as the Chargers pitching staff played well. 3B Richard Sherman III went 1-for-2 with 1 stolen base and a HBP. DH Will Wentz also went 1-for-2 and had a HBP. C TJ Marshall went 1-for-2 for the game.

RHP Felix Ayon pitched well for the Eagles allowing zero runs and only 3 hits in 1 and a third innings. RHP Maxwell Solomon allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk in 1 inning pitched, striking out 1 batter.

Saint Elizabeth will look to bounce back on Wednesday in the final game of the spring break trip against Penn College of Technology.
