The Saint Elizabeth University Softball team had a great day on Thursday sweeping the Lightning of Lehman College 9-1 and 16-0 in the Bronx. With the two wins, the Eagles improve to 3-4 on the season. Lehman drops to 2-3-1 on the year.
First Game
Kami DeGaetani struck out 11 batters to lead Saint Elizabeth past Lehman College 9-1 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader. DeGaetani allowed only four hits and one run over six innings while walking one.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the first inning after the team scored on a passed ball,
Aimee Vega walked,
Katerra Lutes walked and
Sam Hemhauser singled, each scoring one run.
Saint Elizabeth extended their early lead with three runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by
Jadyn Barker and
Bell Edwards. The duo was a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Saint Elizabeth hitting back-to-back.
Bell Edwards and
Katerra Lutes each drove in two runs for the Eagles. The team had a strong eye at the plate in this game, tallying nine walks for the game.
Aimee Vega and
Anna Popola led the team with two walks drawn each. Saint Elizabeth did not commit an error in the field.
Katerra Lutes had the most chances in the field with 12.
Second Game
Josilynn Garcia drove in five runs on two hits to lead Saint Elizabeth University to a 16-0 win. Garcia hit a home run to center field in the fifth, driving in three runs, hit a sacrifice fly in the second, scoring one, and singled in the fourth scoring one.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the first inning after
Bell Edwards singled,
Savannah VanWinkle doubled, and Lehman committed an error, each scoring one run. A single by
Bell Edwards, an error, and a sacrifice fly by
Josilynn Garcia helped Saint Elizabeth extend their early lead in the second. Five more Eagles players crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 16-0.
Gabby Fromm doubled, scoring one run.
Gabby Cummings stepped in the circle first for Saint Elizabeth University. She surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one.
Saint Elizabeth piled up 14 hits in the game.
Jadyn Barker led the Eagles with three hits in three at bats from the lead-off position.
Savannah VanWinkle,
Bell Edwards, and
Aimee Vega each collected multiple hits for Saint Elizabeth. The team had great patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. The team did not commit a single error in the field.

The Eagles will play their home opener on Monday against John Jay College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3pm in Morristown, NJ.
