Softball Splits Against John Jay

The Saint Elizabeth University Softball team split their doubleheader Monday against the Bloodhounds of John Jay College. The split leaves the Eagles sitting at 4-5 on the young season.

Game 1: Runs Hard to Come by in Eagles Win over Bloodhounds
Both teams were strong in the circle but Saint Elizabeth University defeated John Jay College 2-0. Kami DeGaetani started the game for Saint Elizabeth recording 21 outs. The Eagles opened the scoring in the bottom of the sixth thanks to two singles. Saint Elizabeth first got on the board when Anna Popola singled, scoring one run. Kami DeGaetani started in the circle for the Eagles. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking none.

Katerra Lutes, Anna Popola, Sam Hemhauser, and Sydney Rawlings each collected one hit for Saint Elizabeth University. Katerra Lutes and Anna Popola were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Eagles.

Game 2: Saint Elizabeth Stymied by John Jay
In game 2 the Eagles could not keep up with John Jay and fell 15-5 to complete the doubleheader. John Jay got on the board in the first inning after a homer to left field which scored two runs. They would add two runs in the second after a long double.

Gabby Cummings led things off in the circle for Saint Elizabeth University. The righty allowed nine hits and 10 runs over five innings, striking out four and walking five. 

Gabby Fromm, Jadyn Barker, and Julia Stewart each collected two hits for the Eagles offense. Savannah VanWinkle, Gabby Fromm, Amelia Stevens, Jadyn Barker, and Josilynn Garcia each drove in one run for the team. Saint Elizabeth was sure-handed in the field and did not commit a single error. Josilynn Garcia had the most chances in the field with five.

What's Next:
Saint Elizabeth will travel to New Jersey City University for a double header on Thursday. Games are scheduled for 2pm and 4pm in Jersey City, NJ.
