Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagles Come up Short against Rangers

The Saint Elizabeth Men's Basketball team made their season debut tonight against rival Drew University in the Battle of Madison Avenue. This marks the first time the rivalry game was held at Saint Elizabeth since November 20, 2018.

The Rangers got off to a hot start early taking a 19-6 lead. The Eagles fought back with an aggressive defensive scheme to cut lead to only a 5-point deficit at halftime. Saint Elizabeth continued to put the pressure on Drew with steals and fast break layups and took the lead with 11 minutes to go in the game. Drew was able to pull away in the final minutes knocking down several long range jumpshots.

Incoming transfer Tye-Rell Monroe was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 18 points and also added 9 rebounds. Reigning CSAC Defensive Player of the Year Pierre Harden recorded a double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jonathan Ramos also scored double figures scoring 13 points. Nasir Owens provided a much-needed spark off the bench with 10 points of his own. The Eagles were dominant in the paint outscoring Drew 56-30. However, the deciding factor in the game was likely the Eagles free throw shooting. Saint Elizabeth shot a mere 17 for 35 from the line compared to Drew's 19 for 26.

Saint Elizabeth will play their next game on the road in New York City against John Jay College on Saturday November 11th at 4pm. Last year, the Eagles defeated the Bloodhounds in a thrilling 90-87 game.
