Flemington, N.J. – Sophomores
Josh Koller (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) and
Jacob Pipercic (Bradenton, Fla. / Lakewood Ranch) each homered on Monday, but the Saint Elizabeth University baseball team could not keep pace with visiting Wilson, falling 14-8 and 18-4 in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader at Diamond Nation.
Game 1
Wilson (15-3, 4-2 CSAC) scored four in the top of the first inning, and made it 6-0 after the top of the third. However, Saint Elizabeth (2-6, 1-5 CSAC) got on the board with a two-run home run from Pipercic in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-2.
The Phoenix got two runs back in the following inning, and added one in the seventh, but the Eagles used a two-run double from Koller and an RBI double from sophomore outfielder
Joe Brong (Somerville, N.J. / Somerville) to cut the lead to 9-6.
The Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it was not enough as the Phoenix finished with 22 hits compared to 11 for Saint Elizabeth and secured the 14-8 victory.
Pipercic finished 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, and a walk. Brong went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk.
Game 2
In the nightcap, Wilson got out to a big lead early, and Saint Elizabeth was unable to recover.
Junior first baseman
Drew Zimmerman (Sayreville, N.J. / Sayreville War Memorial) smacked an RBI single in the fourth, and Koller launched a three-run home run to left field in the fifth.
