Eagles Pile Up 25 Runs in Sweep of Valley Forge

Morristown, N.J. – The Saint Elizabeth University softball team stacked up 25 runs on Wednesday afternoon with 14-0 and 11-1 victories over Valley Forge in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader at the SEU Softball Field.

Game 1

The Eagles (3-7, 3-7 CSAC) had 13 batters come to the plate and scored nine runs in the second inning of the opener to take control. They then added one in the third and three in the fourth, while senior pitcher Alyssa Hampton (Manchester, N.J. / Manchester Twp.) allowed just three hits and struck out nine over a five-inning complete game shutout.
 
Junior infielder Jontae Patton (Oxnard, Calif. / Rio Mesa) went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, a run, and a steal. Sophomore outfielder Mercedes Rivera (Millville, N.J. / Wildwood Catholic) finished 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a steal. Sophomore Morgan Wehrle (Sayreville, N.J. / Sayreville War Memorial) was 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs.
 
Game 2

The offensive prowess continued for the Eagles in the nightcap, as Rivera picked up an RBI single and senior infielder Brittany Demarest (Budd Lake, N.J. / Mount Olive) drove in two to make it 3-0 after the first inning. The Eagles then added six runs in the second and two in the third to take a commanding 11-0 lead.
 
Hampton was stellar on the mound again, as she allowed just one hit and one unearned run over five innings while striking out seven.
 
For the day, Rivera finished a combined 5-for-6 with four runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base.
