Morristown, N.J. – The Saint Elizabeth University baseball team fell 10-3 in game one before suffering a 7-5 setback in the finale on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Centenary in a Centennial States Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Game 1
The Eagles (0-2, 0-2 CSAC) led off the second inning with a walk and stolen base by sophomore
Joe Brong (Somerville, N.J. / Somerville). He then scored when sophomore
Josh Koller (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenhill) ripped a single to center field. Saint Elizabeth then took a 2-0 lead when sophomore
Anthony Padilla doubled to right field.
However, Centenary (2-1, 2-0 CSAC) responded with a five-run bottom half of the second inning, before tacking on five more runs the rest of the contest while keeping the Eagles at arm's length.
Koller and senior
John Capozzoli (East Willison, N.Y. / Kelleberg Memorial) each had multi-hit games, and the Eagles totaled nine walks and three stolen bases as a team. Saint Elizabeth had three runs, eight hits and no errors, while Centenary had 10 runs, 11 hits and no errors.
Game 2
The Eagles trailed 4-2 after five innings, but rallied in the sixth. They led off the frame with two singles before Brong scored two when he blasted a double to right. Brong later scored on a wild pitch to give Saint Elizabeth a 5-4 lead. However, the Eagles left the bases loaded and could not regain an advantage.
