Rakiyah Sellers (Newark, N.J./Newark Arts) scored her 1,000th career point, and the No. 2 seed College of Saint Elizabeth women's basketball team cruised to a 76-51 victory over No. 3 seed Notre Dame of Maryland in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal on Wednesday night inside Saint Joseph's Hall. The Eagles will head to Keystone for the CSAC Championship game on Saturday at a time to be determined.
Sellers finished with 28 points, while sophomore guard
Maria DeVincenzo (Tampa, Fla./Life Center Academy) totaled 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Senior
Kamille Jacobs (Hillside, N.J./Roselle Catholic) finished with 11 points and a career-high 10 assists.
The game was tied at 19-19 after the opening quarter, however the Eagles (19-6, 15-3 CSAC) used suffocating defense in the second quarter, outscoring Notre Dame (17-9, 13-5 CSAC) 20-6 in the frame to take a 39-25 lead at the break.
Notre Dame opened the second half on a 10-5 run, but the Eagles scored a triple on the following possession, never allowed the Gators to get back within single digits of the lead, and close the game with a 32-16 stretch.
Saint Elizabeth held Notre Dame without a three-point field goal on only four attempts. The Eagles' defense limited the Gators to just 32.1 percent shooting (18-for-56) from the field. They also had 19 assists and 10 turnovers, while Notre Dame had nine assists and 25 turnovers.
