Eagles Fall In CSAC Championship Final at Keystone

La Plume, Pa. – The No. 2 seed College of Saint Elizabeth women's basketball team battled toe-to-toe with No. 1 seed Keystone on Saturday, but ultimately fell short, 72-61, in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship final.
 
Sophomore guard Maria DeVincenzo (Tampa, Fla./Life Center Academy) finished with a team-high 27 points, was 7-for-11 from the field, 3-for-3 from long range, and 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. Junior forward Kamani Williams (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) totaled 11 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
 
The Eagles (19-7) kept pace with Keystone (21-6) in the opening 10 minutes, but the host Giants got hot in the second quarter. Keystone outscored Saint Elizabeth 24-7 in the second quarter, shot 9-for-20 (45.0 percent), while the Eagles went cold and were 1-for-13 (7.7 percent) from the field. At the break, Keystone led 38-19.
 
Next, the Eagles came out of the locker room with incredible intensity, and opened the second half on a 20-4 run to cut the Keystone lead to 42-39 after a three-point bucket from senior Kamille Jacobs (Hillside, N.J./Roselle Catholic) with 4:30 left in the third. Next, the Eagles cut the lead to just one, 45-44, after a jumper from Williams with 1:56 left in the third quarter.

In the final frame, it was a back-and-forth affair, but Saint Elizabeth could not overcome foul trouble, and was unable to claw back to take a lead. Keystone led 61-57 with 2:33 to go, and closed the game on an 11-4 run.
