Clarks Summit, Pa. – Senior guard
Jason Saldiveri (New Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) registered his first double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds, but The College of Saint Elizabeth men's basketball team fell 74-70 at Clarks Summit on Saturday night.
Saint Elizabeth (7-5, 3-1 CSAC) trailed by as many at 16 points early in the second half, 45-29, but carved the lead to 57-55 with 5:02 remaining in the game following a layup by senior center
Roland Romano (Dumont, N.J./Dumont).
The Defenders (3-13, 2-4 CSAC) pushed the lead back up to 12, 68-56 with 2:00 to go, but the Eagles battled back again. An incredible 11-0 run in less than a minute that included three-point buckets from junior
Darnill Brown (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) and senior forward
Shaquan Mickens (Newark, N.J./University), and a traditional three-point play from Saldeveri made it a 68-67 lead for the Defenders with 1:04 left.
Next, Clarks Summit connected on one of two free throws, but Saint Elizabeth could not find the game-tying triple on the next possession. The Defenders then closed the game out at the free throw line.
The Eagles hit the reset button with a 7 p.m. game at Rosemont on Monday, Jan. 13.
