Softball's Season Comes to an End on Saturday


MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizbeth's softball team (24-14, 11-7 NEAC) fell in its season finale to Penn College, 3-1 and 7-1 on Saturday afternoon.

After the Wildcats scored a run in the top of the first, Brittany Demarest gunned a runner at home from a relay from Brittany Demarest for the third out of the inning.
 
The Wildcats added two additional runs in the top of the third to open up a 3-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles finally got on the board as Karyn Shimazu lined a RBI triple to center, scoring Jennifer Tinger to cut the deficit to 3-1.
 
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs, but were unable to put home any runs, falling 3-1.
 
Jontae Patton finished with two hits in game one.  In relief, Laura Costello surrendered just two hits and no runs while striking out three over 4.2 innings.
 
Penn College scored two runs in the top of the first of game two to take a 2-0 lead.  The Wildcats would add a run in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 6-0 advantage.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Marielis Alicea drove in Shimazu for the first run of the game for the Eagles.
 
The Wildcats would tack on a run in theseventh and take the game, 7-1.
 
CSE finished the season with 24 wins, the most in program history.
