Offensive Surge Sparks 102-89 Win at St. Joe’s (LI)

Patchogue, N.Y. – The College of Saint Elizabeth men's basketball team shot a scorching 68.6 percent (24-for-35) from the field and 83.3 percent (10-for-12) from three-point range in the first half en route to a 102-89 victory at St. Joseph's Long Island on Friday night.
 
Six different Eagles (3-0) scored in double-figures, led by junior Darnill Brown (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) who scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and 4-of-7 shooting from long range. Senior guard Jason Saldiveri (New Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) finished with 19 points and shot 8-for-12 from the field.
 
With 5:00 remaining in the opening half the game was tied at 32-32. However, the Eagles made each of their next eight shots, went 5-for-5 from beyond the arc, and closed the frame on a 27-9 run to take a 59-41 lead into the break.
 
Saint Elizabeth had its largest lead of the game after a three from Saldiveri to make it 76-54 with 11:37 to go. The lead was also up to 22 after a layup by senior center Roland Romano (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) to make it 82-60 with 7:46 left. St. Joseph's (1-1) was then kept at arm's length for the remainder of the game.
 
Senior guard Ted Thelemaque (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) scored a season-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Senior guard Cam Tucker (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) scored 11 points, while fellow seniors Lance Rhoden (Orange, N.J./Orange) and Romano finished with 10 points each.
 
Up next, Saint Elizabeth travels just down the road to Drew for a 7 p.m. non-conference game on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
