MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (3-4, 2-1NEAC) fell in a high scoring affair to Gallaudet University, 102-96 on Wednesday evening.
Damaris King started strong out of the gate for the Eagles, scoring six of the Eagles first 11 points at it trailed 14-11 with 4:12 remaining in the quarter. The Bison scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 22-15 lead into the second period.
After the Bison took a nine-point lead to open the second quarter, the Eagles used a 7-0 run to slice the deficit to 31-29. Over the next three minutes, the Bison used a 9-1 run to open up a 45-32 lead, its largest of the game. CSE grinded its way back over the final three minutes with the help of a
Maria DeVincenzo buzzer beater to get within 50-41 at halftime.
To start the third quarter, the Eagles used an 11-5 run in the first two minutes to get within 55-52. CSE continued its stellar offensive start to the second half, scoring five of the next six points to take a 57-56 lead, its first since the first quarter. Despite taking the lead, the Bison battled back, going on a 7-1 run with 4:14 to go to take a 67-61 advantage. CSE cut the deficit to four, however the Bison scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 78-68 lead into the final 10 minutes.
Despite trailing by 14 to open the quarter, the Eagles came storming back, quickly getting to within five with 4:30 remaining. The Eagles would continue to lower the deficit, getting to as little as three-points down with 1:33 to go. After DeVincenzo converted on two free throws, the Eagles trailed by just two, but was unable to score over the final 30 seconds of the game before falling by six.
DeVincenzo and
Deja Ingram led the Eagles with 21 points each.Â
Rakiyah Sellers added 17 points. Six Eagles finished in double-figures.
