Balanced Effort Leads Eagles Over Mustangs

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (4-4, 3-1 NEAC) outlasted Morrisville State for its third conference win of the season, 68-63 on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles came storming out of the gate in the first quarter, knocking down its first three field goal attempts to take an 8-0 lead 1:30 into the game.  After the Mustangs cut the lead to 13-11, the Eagles ran off the next nine points to open up a 22-11 lead, its largest of the game.  Morrisville ended the quarter on a 5-0 as the Eagles took a 22-17 lead into the second period.

CSE came out strong again in the second quarter, scoring the first, scoring the first six points to regain an 11-point lead.  Despite the double-digit lead, the Mustangs scored the next 11 points over a three-minute span, tying the game at 28.  The Eagles closed strong over the final three minutes, ending the half on an 8-2 run to take a 36-30 lead into the break.

To begin the third quarter, the Eagles quickly blitzed the Mustangs, forcing three turnovers in the first two minutes en route to regaining a double-digit lead.  The Eagles continued to build the lead over the next three minutes, opening as big as a 56-38 lead.  After the Mustangs got to within 13, the Eagles ended the quarter scoring the final six points, taking a commanding 60-41 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Morrisville opened the final quarter on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 62-48 with 7 minutes remaining in regulation.  Over the next three minutes, the Mustangs sliced the Eagles lead to single-digits.  Despite getting to within four, the Eagles did not allow any points in the final minute, closing the game out, 68-63.

Deja Ingram led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds and three blocks.  Kamille Jacobs added 15 points while Rakiyah Sellers pitched in with 11.

CSE looks to continue its winning ways on Sunday when it hosts Cazenovia College at 12 pm.
