Eagles Hang on For Thrilling Overtime Win Over Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, P.A. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team (8-5, 3-3 NEAC) hung on for a thrilling 91-90 win in overtime over Penn College on Wednesday evening.

Jason Saldiveri led the way with 29 points on 10-19 shooting and seven steals.  Cam Tucker added 21 points while Lance Rhoden added 13 points.

After trailing 6-4 in the first minute of the game, the Eagles took the lead a minute later and held it for the remainder of the half.  CSE opened up as large as an eight point lead in the half before taking a 41-37 lead into the break.

Penn College took control early in the second half, scoring 16 of the first 21 points to take a 53-45 lead, its largest of the game.  The Eagles chipped into the deficit before Saldiveri buried a three-pointer at the 9:05 mark to tie the game at 60.  Over the final nine minutes, neither team led by more than three before the Wildcats took a one point lead with 1:18 remaining.  In the final minute, Tucker made a clutch free throw to tie the game at 80, sending the game into overtime.

The back and forth action continued in overtime with the Wildcats knocking down two free throws to take a 90-88 lead with 51 seconds remaining.  The Eagles cut the deficit to one before Saldiveri came up with a clutch steal, dishing the ball to Jordan Simmons who made an easy layup with 10 seconds remaining.  The Eagles defense shut down the Wildcats in the final 10 seconds as it held on for the one point win.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday when it travels to Penn State Berks at 3 pm.
