MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (5-4, 4-1 NEAC) rolled past Cazenovia College for its second straight win, 66-59 on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams started off hot from beyond the arc in the first period, knocking down a combined four three-pointers in the first five minutes as the Eagles took an early 12-10 lead. CSE used a 5-0 run with three minutes remaining to open up a 20-14 lead, its largest of the game. The Eagles closed the quarter strong as it took a 27-17 advantage into the second period.
To begin the second quarter, the Eagles started on an 8-2 run to balloon its lead to 37-19, its largest of the game. CSE's defense was suffocating in the second quarter, holding the Wildcats to just two points over the first eight minutes. The Eagles closed out the half strong, taking a 39-23 lead into the break.
The Wildcats came out strong to begin the second half, going on an 13-6 run over the first five minutes to cut the Eagles lead to 45-36. The Wildcats scored the final six points of the quarter to slice into the Eagles lead, 49-44 heading to the final quarter.
The first five minutes saw both teams trading buckets as the Eagles grew its lead slightly to 58-50. With the lead cut to 52-57 with 2:30 to play,
Deja Ingram knocked down two clutch free throws to give the Eagles a seven-point lead. Despite the Wildcats getting within five, the Eagles knocked down two free-throws over the final 23 seconds, preserving the 66-59 victory.
Kamille Jacobs led the Eagles with 18 points and six rebounds.
Rakiyah Sellers, Damaris king and Ingram all finished in double-figures for CSE.
CSE looks for its third straight win on Wednesday when it travels Penn College for a 6 pm tip.
