COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (15-9, 9-1 NEAC) played to a split in its final NEAC crossover doubleheader to SUNY Cobleskill, falling in game one, 2-1 before downing the Fighting Tigers 12-2 in game two.
In game one, Cobleskill plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  In the top of the second,
Brittany Demarest grounded out to shortstop, scoring
Neckolette Nedwell to cut the deficit in half.
After a shaky first inning,
Alyssa Hampton dominated on the mound, retiring 10 straight batters into the fourth inning.  The game continued to be a pitcher's duel into the seventh as neither team scored a run passed the top of the second.  In the final inning, the Eagles were sent down 1-2-3 as Cobleskill hung on for the 2-1 win, snapping the Eagles eight game winning streak.
Hampton finished the game with five strikeouts while surrendering just five hits and two runs over six innings. Â
The Eagles offense jumped out of the gate in game two as
Elizabeth Unger lined a RBI single to open the scoring.  Later in the inning,
Ashley VonHorn roped a two-run single to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.  Demarest would later add a RBI groundout to give CSE a four-run first inning.
After Cobleskill scored two runs in the bottom of the first, following a bases loaded walk by Teya Car,  VonHorn belted a two-run double with the bases loaded to give the Eagles a 7-2 advantage. Â
The third inning saw the Eagles blow the game open, scoring four more runs to take a 11-2 lead. Â Unger, Carr, and Nedwell all had RBI's in the inning. Â
Rachael Romer would add a RBI single in the fourth inning and
Alyssa Vega would shut the door on the mound as the Eagles took game two, 12-2 in five innings.
VonHorn finished the game with two hits and four RBI's.  Unger, Sanchez, and Nedwell each had two hits as well.  Vega earned her fourth victory of the season on the mound, striking out two over five innings.
CSE returns to action for a pivotal home conference doubleheader with NEAC leading Penn State Berks on Wednesday at 3 pm.
