WILLIAMSPORT, P.A. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (14-8, 8-0 NEAC) continued its tear in the NEAC, sweeping Penn College, 4-3 and 2-1 on Saturday for its eighth straight victory.
In the top of the first of game one,
Ashley VonHorn drew a bases loaded walk to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Â Both teams were held off the board until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Wildcats platted two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles came right back in the top of the fifth as
Neckolette Nedwell roped a RBI single to tie the game at two. Â Later in the inning,
Brittany Demarest flew out to center, scoring Nedwell to regain a one-run lead for CSE.
The Wildcats would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth off a run scoring double. Â With the game tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh, with the bases loaded, Nedwell stole home to put the Eagles back on top, 4-3. Â In the bottom of the inning,
Alyssa Hampton shut the door, preserving the one-run victory.
Hampton earned her seventh victory of the season, pitching a complete game. Â Nedwell finished with two hits and a RBI while
Teya Carr reached base three times.
Game two started out as a pitcher's duel as both teams were held scoreless over the first three innings. Â In the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats scored an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth inning, however the Eagles offense finally got going in the sixth.  CSE loaded the bases with no outs and Carr drew a walk to tie the game at one.  Two batters later, VonHorn was hit by a pitch, scoring
Rachael Romer to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Clinging to a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh,
Marielis Alicea came on looking for her first save of the season. Â The first three batters of the inning reached base without a hit to lead the bases with no outs. Â The next two batters hit into fielder's choices with the play at home, to keep the score at 2-1 with two outs. Â With the bases still loaded and two outs, Alicea induced a ground ball back to herself, completing the out at first to get out of the jam and give the Eagles the 2-1 win.
Alysa Vega earned her third win of the season, pitching six hits and giving up no earned runs.  Alicea pitched one inning in relief for her first save of the season. Â
CSE returns to action on Sunday when it travels to SUNY Cobleskill for a 12 pm start.
