Softball Soars Past Abington For Conference Sweep

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (8-8, 2-0 NEAC) stormed past Penn State Abington to earn its first two conference wins of the season, winning game one, 3-1 and game two, 5-4.

The Eagles struck early in the bottom of the first in game one, as Teya Carr lined an RBI single to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.  Later in the inning, Ashley VonHorn drove in Neckolette Nedwell to extend the lead to two.

After Abington score its first run in the top of the fourth, the Eagles got thr run right back in the bottom of the fifth as Rachael Romer lined a RBI single to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.  CSE shut the Nittany Lions down over the final two innings to take game one, 3-1.

On the mound, Alyssa Hampton was dominate, spinning a complete game gem, allowing just one run and two hits while striking out three while earning her fourth win.  At the dish, Romer finished 2-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Game two started similar to game one as Carr and Elizabeth Unger lined RBI singles in the bottom of the first to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.  The Nittany Lions added a run in the secon inning, however, Unger and VonHorn had run scoring hits in the bottom of the third to open up a 4-1 lead for CSE.

Over the next three innings, Abington managed to scrape across three runs to tie the score at four heading to the final inning.  In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles loaded the bases and Unger came through, lining a RBI single to left to score Romer, her second walk-off of the season to give the Eagles the 5-4 win.

Alyssa Vega earned her second win of the season for the Eagles, throwing 3.2 innings in relief and striking out two.  Unger dominated at the dish, finishing 4-4 while driving in three runs.  Romer added three hits in the game while Sanchez finished with two.

CSE returns to action on Friday when it travels to Lancaster Bible for a doubleheader beginning at 2 pm.
