MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (2-2, 1-0 NEAC) dominated from the opening tip, downing Penn College in its conference opener, 63-51 on Wednesday evening.
The first quarter saw back-and-forth action by both teams as Penn College took an early 13-9 lead. Â Trailing 15-11 with 2:33 remaining in the quarter, the Eagles used an 8-0 over the next 1:20 to take a 19-15 advantage. Â
CSE used a 5-0 run to start the second period, taking a 27-20 lead, its largest of the game. Â The Wildcats managed to cut the deficit to four, however the Eagles scored the final three points of the quarter to take a 36-29 lead into halftime.Â
CSE started the third quarter strong, opening on an 11-3 run to open up a 46-32 lead, its largest of the game. Â Leading 47-34, the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to balloon the lead to 20. The Eagles ended up with a 55-37 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Eagles lead by as much as 22 in the fourth quarter and would not allow the Wildcats to get closer than 12, taking the contest, 63-51.
Maria DeVincenzo led the way with 17 points. Â
Deja Ingram added 15 points and 10 rebounds while
Kamille Jacobs finished with 14 points and six boards.Â
CSE returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Lancaster Bible for a 12 pm tip.
