MORRISTOWN, N.J. - Junior
Jason Saldiveri became the first player in the men's program history to score his 1,000th career point as the College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team (4-0, 0-0 NEAC) rolled past the King's College of N.Y., 96-72 on Monday evening.
Just six seconds into the game, Saldiveri took the opening tip coast-to-coast to score the first bucket of the game, his 999th and 1,000th career points. CSE continued its hot start, scoring the first nine points of the game. Throughout the next four minutes, the Eagles continued its domination, scoring 15 of the next 21 points to open up a 24-6 lead.
The Eagles continued to pour it on throughout the remainder of the half, as the Eagles used an 8-2 and 5-0 run to take a 47-27 lead into the halftime break. Saldiveri scored 21 points in the half.
CSE continued where it left off to begin the second half, scoring 10 of the first 14 points to open up a 26-point lead, its largest of the game. At the 12 minute mark,
Kar'ron Johnson and
Lance Rhoden buried back-to-back three-pointers to give the Eagles a 68-38 lead.
The Lions managed to cut the lead to 15 with five minutes remaining, however the Eagles would not allow them to get any closer before taking the game,
Saldiveri lead all scorers with 31 points. He became the first Eagle in program history to score his 1,000th career point, doing so in just his 46th career game.
Johnson added 21 points on 8-13 from the floor while
Roland Romano added 12 points and 11 rebounds. The 96 points was a season high for the Eagles.
The four straight wins mark the longest win streak and best start to the season in program history.
CSE returns to action on Wednesday for its NEAC opener when it hosts Penn College at 8 pm.
