MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team (5-0, 1-0 NEAC) rolled passed Penn College in its NEAC opener, 87-57 on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles defense came out alive in the first half, holding the Wildcats to just 10 points over the first 10:39 of the game. After leading by five midway through the half, the Eagles used an 8-0 run to open up a 26-12 lead. Over the final 6:35 in the half, the Eagles held the Wildcats to just six points in route to a 41-20 halftime lead.
Three minutes into the second half,
Ted Thelemaque knocked down a three-pointer, giving the Eagles a 50-27 lead, its biggest of the contest. With a 59-40 advantage with 12:46 remaining, the Eagles ran off a 14-0 run to take a 73-40 lead. CSE's defense continued to be stellar throughout the game, not allowing the Wildcats to get closer than 28 before taking the game, 87-57.
CSE trailed for just 1:26 in the game and had a lead as high as 35.
Roland Romano led the Eagles with 19 points on 9-14 from the floor and 12 rebounds. Thelemaque added a season high 15 points while
Jason Saldiveri scored 10 points and dished out five assists.
CSE looks to continue its best start in program history on Saturday when it travels to Lancaster Bible for a 2 pm tip.
