MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team (3-9, 0-5 NEAC) was outlasted in a tight matchup to Cazenovia College, 75-71 on Saturday afternoon.
Roland Romano lead the Eagles with 16 points and 11 rebounds.Â
Cam Tucker added 11 points while
Devon Tuten finished the game with 10 points and six rebounds.
The first eight minutes of the game was evenly played until the Wildcats went on a 7-0 run to take a 17-11 lead. Despite the deficit, the Eagles came right back with an 8-2 run to square the game at 19. The game continued to go back and forth over the next six minutes before Cazenovia converted an and-one to take a 28-25 lead. With the Wildcats up one, Blake Bagozzi banked home a three-pointer at the buzzer to take a 35-31 into halftime.
The Wildcats started the second half on a 12-5 run to open up its largest lead of the game at 47-38. The Eagles defense locked down mover the next five minutes, holding Cazenovia scoreless will scoring nine straight points to tie the game at 47. While the Eagles managed to tie the score, it could not manage to take the lead as Cazenovia fought back with a 7-0 run.
With the Wildcats leading by 10 with 1:46 remaining, The Eagles quickly score five straight points to cut the lead to five. With 40 seconds remaining, Tucker buried back-to-back three-pointers to slice the deficit to just two. After two Wildcat free-throws, the Eagles were unable to convert in the last 20 seconds, dropping the game by four.
