Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's volleyball team (2-8, 1-2 NEAC) dropped a conference match to Gallaudet University, 3-0 (18-25, 14-25, 16-25) on Friday night.
Maura Farley paced the Eagles with 15 assists, nine digs, and two blocks.
Stephanie Mitarotonda added six kills and two service aces while
Jessica Garreffa added eight digs and two assists.
The Eagles took an early lead in the first set as back-to-back points gave CSE a 10-8 lead. The Eagles couldn't hold the lead for long as the Bison from Gallaudet scored eight of the next ten points to take a 16-12 lead. After the Eagles cut the lead to one, the Bison ran off eight of the next nine points, before taking the set, 25-18.
After the Bison controlled the second set by winning 25-14, the Eagles got off to a hot start in the third set, taking four of the first five points. The Bison managed to win nine of the next ten to retake a 10-5 lead. Despite trailing by six, the Eagles won five straight points midway through the set to cut the deficit to 16-15. While the Eagles continued to battle in the set, Gallaudet managed to take nine of the final ten points to win the third set and take the match, 3-0.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday when it travels to Penn State Abington for a tri-match, beginning at 10 am.
