Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (7-25, 4-12 NEAC) dropped a home conference doubleheader to Lancaster Bible College, 8-2 and 16-11 on Thursday afternoon.
After the Chargers scored a run in the top of the first, Elizabeth Unger lined a RBI double to center, scoring Megan Lapinski to tie the game at one. In top of the second, the Chargers plated three unearned runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Trailing 7-1 in in the bottom of the third, Unger lined a RBI single to left, driving in her second run of the game. Both teams were held scoreless over the next three innings. Lancaster added a run in the top of the seventh, taking game one, 8-2.
In the bottom of the first of game two, Unger continued her offensive onslaught, ripping a RBI double to left, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. CSE added an unearned run later in the inning to take a 2-0 lead into the second inning. The Chargers came back in the top of the second, scoring seven runs to take a 7-2 lead.
Trailing 12-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Rachael Romer lined a two-run double with the bases loaded, scoring two. The next batter, Unger, ripped another RBI double, scoring Romer and getting the Eagles within six. Marie Goodman and Victoria Ciallella added run scoring hits later in the inning, getting CSE within 12-9.
Lancaster added three runs in the top of the fifth to regain a 15-9 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Unger continued her hot hitting, smacking a two-run double, getting the Eagles within four. Lancaster added a run in the seventh and CSE was unable to mount a late comeback, falling 16-11.
Unger raised her batting average 33 points on the day and is now batting .395 on the season.
CSE returns to action on Friday when it hosts Wilson College at 3 pm.
