Eagles Power Past Abington for Senior Day Sweep

Morristown, N.J. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (7-23, 4-10 NEAC) rolled passed Penn State Abington in a senior day sweep, 12-6 and 9-6 on Saturday afternoon.

In the top of the first, Penn State Abington score four runs to take a 4-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Eagles put two runners on before Elizabeth Unger belted her third home run of the season, a three-run shot to get the Eagles back within one. Later in the inning, Victoria Ciallella lined a RBO single to tie the game at four.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, Unger lined a double off the left center field wall, scoring Megan Lapinski to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the fourth with a one-run lead, Danesha Triplett send a three-run homer flying over the left-center field wall on senior day, giving CSE a 9-5 lead.

Leading 9-6 in the bottom of the sixth, Unger lined her second home run of the game to left, giving the Eagles a four-run lead. Two batters later, Marie Goodman lined a RBI double to left, scoring Triplett. CSE added another run in the inning and Rachael Romer shut the Nittany Lions down in the seventh, sealing the 12-6 victory.

Unger finished game one, 3-3 with two home runs and five RBI's. Unger now has four home runs and 27 RBI's on the season. Marielis Alicea earned her fourth win of the season on the mound.

Following a run in the top of the first of game two by Abington, the Eagles followed with two runs before loading the bases for Stephanie Moya. With the count 2-1, Moya lined a single to center, scoring two to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second, with runners on second and third, Unger continued her phenomenal day, lining a RBI single to right, giving the Eagles a 6-1 lead. Abington cut into the lead in the fifth inning, hitting back-to-back home runs to get within 7-4.

Leading 8-6 in the sixth, Triplett launched her second home run of the day to center field, giving the Eagles a 9-6 lead. In the top of the seventh, with the tying run on, Alicea shut the door, picking up her first save of the season and giving the Eagles the 9-6 win.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Lancaster Bible at 3 pm.
