Eagles Fall in Final Non-Conference Doubleheader

Morristown, N.J. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (5-23, 2-10 NEAC) dropped a pair of non-conference games to Delaware Valley College, 16-5 and 15-8 on Thursday afternoon.

In the top of the first inning of game one, the Aggies used five hits to score four runs and take a 4-0 lead. After the Aggies added three more runs in the second inning, the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs. CSE's leading hitter, Megan Lapinski, lined a two-run single to right, cutting the deficit to five. CSE added another run on a wild pitch to get within four heading to the third inning.

In the top of the fifth, the Aggies put two on with no outs, but Marielis Alicea escaped the jam without giving up a run. In the bottom half of the inning, Victoria Ciallella lined a RBI double to left, getting the Eagles within three.

In the top of the sixth, the Aggies scored nine runs to open up a 16-4. Lapinski added a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning but it was not enough as the Aggies took the game in six innings.

The Eagles jumped out front in the first inning of game two as Elizabeth Unger lined a RBI double. CSE would add a run later in the inning to take a 2-0 lead. After the Aggies tied the score in the top of the second, Unger lined a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to regain a one-run lead. The Aggies scored three in the top of the third to take a 5-3 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Alicea rocked a RBI triple, followed by a Stephanie Moya RBI groundout to tie the ballgame at five. In the next inning, Ciallella smashed a two-run single, giving the Eagles a 7-5 lead. CSE could not hold the lead for long as the Aggies scored ten runs over the next three innings to take the game, 15-8.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday when it hosts Penn State Abington on senior day starting at 12 pm.
