Abington Slips Passed Eagles in NEAC Opener

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (3-13, 0-2 NEAC) was edged in its NEAC opener to Penn State Abington, 4-2 and 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

In game one, the Eagles stuck first in the second inning as Danesha Triplett lined a two-run double to right center, scoring Victoria Ciallella and Elizabeth Unger to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless third inning, Abington scored two runs in the fourth inning to tie the score at two. Abington would add two more runs to take a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. After both teams went scoreless over the next two innings, the Eagles threatened after putting the tying run on base in the seventh inning with one out. Abington managed to retire the next two batters, taking the game by two.

After Abington scored the first run in the bottom of the first in game two, the Eagles scored two unearned runs over the next two innings to take a 2-1 lead. In the top of the fourth, Marielis Alicea lined a RBI single to right to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

Abington plated a run in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game heading to the final inning. After a scoreless top of the seventh by the Eagles, Abington lined a walk-off double to win the game 4-3.

Alicea, Triplett, and Unger  finished the day with three hits each. In game one, Alicea threw a complete game, giving up three earned runs while striking out one.
