Eagles Drop Doubleheader to Berks

Morristown, N.J. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (3-19, 0-6 NEAC) fell in its NEAC home opener to Penn State Berks, 9-0 and on Wednesday afternoon.

CSE turned its first double play of the season in the first inning, a 2-4-7 double play to record the first two outs of the game. The Nittany Lions scored a two-out run in the first and tacked on two unearned runs in the second inning, followed by two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead over the Eagles.

The Eagles offense struggled through the first five innings as they were held without a baserunner. Berks added four more runs over the next two innings to take the game 9-0 in five innings. Jess Rozick pitched a five inning perfect game for the Nittany Lions.

After allowing the leadoff batter on in game two, Danesha Triplett sent the next three batters down to keep the game scoreless. Berks got on the board in the second inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Elizabeth Unger lined a single to right, the first hit of the day for the Eagles. Heather Passaro and Triplett reached base with singles in the third inning, but were left stranded.

The Nittany Lions added two runs in the fourth inning while the Eagles had just two hits over the final three innings, dropping the game, 6-0.

CSE returns to action on Friday when it travels to Lancaster Bible for a 3 pm start.
