Lancaster, Pa. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (5-19, 2-8 NEAC) picked up its first two NEAC wins of the season with a doubleheader sweep of Lancaster Bible College, 7-6 and 5-2 on Friday afternoon.
In game one, the Chargers got out front early, scoring a run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, the Eagles put the first three batters on base to bring up cleanup hitter,
Elizabeth Unger. As the go ahead run at bat, Unger blasted her second grand slam of the season to left, giving the Eagles a 4-3 lead.
Victoria Ciallella added a RBI single later in the inning to give CSE a two-run lead.
Marie Goodman continued the offensive outburst in the fifth inning, lining a RBI single, scoring Unger to give the Eagles a 6-3 lead. The Chargers added a run in the bottom half of the inning but
Rachael Romer got the run right back in the sixth, hitting a SAC fly to regain a three-run lead. Lancaster would add two runs in the sixth inning, but Romer would shut the Chargers down in the seventh, notching the save and preserving the one-run victory for the Eagles.
Danesha Triplett picked up her first win of the season on the mound for CSE, striking out two over 5.1 innings. Romer held Lancaster run-less over 1.2 innings, earning her first career save.
Both teams were held scoreless over the first two innings of game two. In the top of the third, Unger bounced a RBI single, scoring
Megan Lapinski to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Ciallella roped a three-run triple, and scored on an error to open up a 5-0 lead. Lancaster would add two runs in the sixth inning but would be shut down the rest of the way as the Eagles held on for the 5-2 win.
Marielis Alicea was dominate on the mound, allowing just five hits while striking out three over seven innings. Lapinski added three hits in game two, raising her batting average to a team high .357.
CSE returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Penn State Berks for a 12 pm start.
