Clermont, Fl. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (0-4, 0-0 NEAC) fell in its Monday morning games at THE Spring Games in Florida, 9-2 to Elizabethtown and 21-1 to Mount Union.
After a leadoff single in game one by Elizabethtown, Marielis Alicea retired the next three in order to keep the game scoreless. Megan Lapinski ripped a single to left with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but was stranded at first after a scoreless inning.
The Blue Jays broke through in the top of the third inning, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles put runners on first and second, but were unable to cut into the deficit. The Eagles finally plated a run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Elizabeth Unger drove in a RBI sacrifice fly to get within 2-1.
In the top of the fifth, Elizabethtown threated with second and third, but Alicea induced a groundout to first, keeping the score at 2-1. In the top of the sixth, the Blue Jays added three insurance runs to take a 5-1 lead over CSE. Trailing 9-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Victoria Ciallella lined a RBI double to left, scoring Heather Passaro. CSE was unable to power any further offense, dropping the contest by seven.
After the Eagles were sent down 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning of game two, Mount Union scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. After the Raiders added four more runs in the second inning, the Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third, but were unable to plate any runs.
In the top of the fourth, Danesha Triplett grounded out to second, scoring Marie Goodman for its only run of the game for the Eagles. Mount Union added runs in each of the next two innings, taking the game, 21-1 in five innings.
CSE returns to action on Tuesday when it takes on Immaculata University and the Penn State New Kensington.
