Eagles Roll to Sweep Over Brooklyn

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team's (3-9, 0-0 NEAC) bats came alive in a doubleheader sweep of Brooklyn College, 17-4 and 14-3 on Saturday afternoon.

After a RBI groundout by Megan Lapinski in game one, Marie Goodman lined a two-run single, opening up a 3-0 Eagles lead in the top half of the first inning. In the third inning, Goodman ripped a two-run double, followed by Caitlin Gibson and Rachael Romer RBI singles, extending the Eagles lead to seven.

Following three straight bases loaded walks in the top of the forth inning, Lapinski roped a two-run double to blow the game open, 15-0. Brooklyn would get on the board in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs. Gibson would add a RBI single in the fifth inning, and Marielis Alicea would close the door in the bottom half on the mound, sealing the 17-4 victory in game one.

Alicea picked up her second win of the season in game one, finishing with three earned runs while striking out six over five innings.

CSE started the second game right where they left off, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning off back to back two-run singles by Danesha Triplett and Elizabeth Unger. The Eagles would tack on two more in the second inning to up the lead to six.

Leading 6-0 in the third inning, Alicea and Gibson added RBI singles to open up an eight run lead. Continuing to her stellar day, Lapinski raked another two-run double, scoring Gibson and Alicea to take a 10-0 lead. The Eagles would add three more runs in the inning, and another in the fourth to extend the lead to 14. Brooklyn would add a run in the fourth, and two in the fifth but it was not enough as the Eagles took the game 14-3 in five innings.

Romer notched her first victory of the season on the mound for CSE, finishing with three earned runs and five strikeouts over five innings.

Lapinski finished the day 5-7 at the dish with eight RBI's, five runs scored, and a walk. Gibson added four hits, four RBI's, and three runs scored while Goodman had four hits, five RBI's and three runs scored.

CSE returns to action on Thursday for its home opener against NJCU at 3 pm.
