Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (13-9, 11-6 NEAC) downed Morrisville State on Think Pink Day, 80-74 on Saturday afternoon.
Jasmine Poole had a sensational game for the Eagles, finishing with 34 points on 11-22 from the floor while grabbing 12 rebounds.
Deja Ingram had a stellar game down low, finishing with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Both teams traded buckets for the first seven minutes of the first quarter before the Mustangs used a 9-0 run to end the quarter with a 22-16 lead. After the Mustangs opened a nine point lead, CSE scored the next five points to cut the deficit to four. CSE continued to fight as
Rakiyah Sellers buried her first three-pointer of the game to square the square the score at 38. With 41 seconds remaining in the half, Poole scored a layup and got fouled, giving the Eagles its first lead of the second quarter. Morrisville would score the final points of the half but the Eagles managed to take a 42-40 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs controlled the first seven minutes of the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles by nine to take a 57-50 lead. CSE managed to close out the quarter strong, slicing the deficit to 59-55 heading to the final ten minutes.
The Eagles turned up its defense in the final quarter allowing just three points through the first four minutes as CSE regained a 62-61 lead. After Morrisville took a one point lead, the Eagles smothering defense held the Mustangs scoreless over the next three minutes, going on a 6-0 run to take a 68-63 lead. With the Eagles leading by four with a minute to play,
Damaris King nailed a dagger three-pointer, extending the lead to seven. The Eagles would knock down four free-throws in the final seconds, closing out Morrisville, 80-74.
As part of Think Pink, SAAC took donations that will go to the The Kay Yow Foundation. The Kay Yow Foundation benefits women's cancer research, to serve the underserved and unite others in the fight against cancer.
CSE returns to action on Sunday for senior day when it hosts Cazenovia College at 12 pm.
