Abington, Pa. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (12-5, 10-2 NEAC) continued its stellar play in the NEAC, defeating Penn State Abington, 59-57 on Wednesday evening.
Danesha Triplett led the Eagles with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Jasmine Poole added 19 points and nine rebounds while Rakyiah Sellers chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.
Leading 10-8 in the first quarter, the Eagles scored the next six points to take a 16-8 lead.
Ashley Morera added a buzzer-beating layup to give the Eagles a 21-11 lead heading into the second period.
Jasmine Poole knocked down a jumper with 5:38 remaining in the half to give CSE its largest lead of the game at 14. The Eagles defense was smothering in the second quarter, holding Abington scoreless for the first five minutes of the half. Triplett scored the final bucket of the half to give the Eagles a 30-17 lead heading into halftime.
The Eagles pushed the lead to 14, four minutes into the third quarter. Abington attempted to make a run, but the Eagles took an eight-point lead into the final period. Triplett scored the first basket of the fourth quarter, a layup while getting fouled to up the lead back to ten. Abington took control of the next five minutes, going on a 14-0 run to take a 50-46 lead with three minutes to go in the game.
Trailing by three with two minutes to play, Triplett once again made a layup under the basket while getting fouled to tie the game at 52. After Abington took a two point lead, Triplett burried a three-point to give the Eagles a 55-54 lead with 59 seconds remaining. Poole and
Alivia Roseboro knocked down four clutch free-throws in the final minute to starve off the Nittany Lions, 59-57.
